I mean, I graduated college, got married, am expecting another baby, and bought a house – and that’s just in the last six months! While I didn’t complete all of my goals for 2019, it was still an extremely productive year. Now that it’s almost over, I’m ready to start planning how I’m going to tackle my goals for 2020. Here’s what I have planned:
Back in the fall semester of 2018, I started working on a project in my screenwriting class. I spent the entire semester crafting a horror screenplay that is loosely based on a local urban legend near my hometown. Unfortunately I never sat down to finish the last few scenes (I think there’s maybe five or six scenes left?) and I’ve been putting it off all year.
Even though I don’t think my screenplay will ever make it to the actual screen, I’d still like the satisfaction of knowing I finished the entire project and wrote an entire screenplay by myself. There’s really nothing stopping me except myself – I already wrote summaries of the remaining scenes, it’s just a matter of sitting down and doing the damn thing.
This is another project I started during my senior year of undergrad. During my last semester, I began my senior capstone project which consisted of basically just drafting a long-form piece of creative non-fiction. I decided to create a college survival guide because after eight years and four colleges, I kind of know a thing or two about surviving it.
I ended up getting about a third of it done (approximately 30ish pages) and am really disappointed in myself for not completing it in 2019. So it’s now one of my goals for 2020!
Carrying this one over from 2019… I was doing pretty well for a little while there, but then life got in the way. I’ve taken the time to strategically plan out my drafting sessions (thanks to help from my Thrive Mastermind coaches Lani and Bree!) and will be more strict about staying on top of the blog in 2020.
This has been an on-and-off struggle of mine the past few years. When I was pregnant with Elsie, I managed to kick the habit for a pretty long time. About six months after she was born, I got back into it. There have been stretches of time where I’ve managed to stop for a couple months, but lately I’ve been terrible about it. So one of my goals for 2020 is to completely stop biting my nails. (Maybe I need to start getting manicures so they’re too pretty to chew on?)
Everyone has seen the cute Scrabble tile name decor on Pinterest, right? Well, ya girl has asked her crafty dad to help make some for our home! I’m excited to build a photo wall around it once it’s up in our new house. 😀
Obviously a good goal to have during pregnancy. But I also generally have been really terrible about getting enough water on a daily basis. I’ve heard that you should take your weight, divide it in two, and that’s how many ounces of water you should be drinking each day. Right now I’m roughly 120lb (with more added each week thanks to pregnancy LOL) so I’m going to start with 60oz per day – that’s approximately 3.5 bottles of water. Definitely doable!
I’ve been really good over the years about building up my credit. I went from a 500-something credit score in 2015, to having right around 700 today. I’d really like to pay off two more small balance debts in the next twelve months – my wedding ring (less than $600 balance) and one of my student loans (only $950 left).
The last time I went on a getaway with Sebastian was in 2011. Okay, okay, so we’ve only been back together since this May, but still. I’m dying to have a mini-honeymoon with my husband and have a week alone to relax together. Maybe we’ll do a babymoon before Teagan joins our family in July. 🙂
In my 27 years of life, I have yet to see a movie at a drive-in theatre. Ever since one opened up locally, I’ve been itching to go. It’s on my bucket list, after all! Of all my goals for 2020, this one is the lowest hanging fruit. I can’t wait until they play a movie I really want to see so we can go.
Although I haven’t been extremely public about it, becoming a freelancer has been at the front of my mind for a while now. While I love my day job, it doesn’t always give me the creative outlet that I need – and the extra money from working nights and weekends on client work would certainly be nice! I’ve had my website live for a couple of months now, but haven’t promoted it much yet. But that’ll change in 2020, as I seek out my first couple of clients. 😉
Ten goals seems like a hefty challenge, but honestly I am pumped and ready to get to work!
It’s been an insane year, to say the least. With the pandemic still…
