My Story

Hi, I’m Kristan!

I took a break from blogging for the past 4 years, but I decided 2025 will be the year of my return to my love of reading and writing.

Needless to say, a lot has changed in my life since 2021. At some point in the last couple years since I welcomed my 30s, I realized how much I was forcing together pieces in my life that didn’t quite fit.

Four years ago, I was happy. Or at least, I thought I was. Turns out things aren’t always what they appear to be, despite the masks we wear online. So I made changes. Big changes. I got divorced, moved to a new city, changed roles at work, and began to integrate myself into a new community. I even found a new love, which I’m sure I will gush about on the blog in the future.

A little bit about my life…

My daughter, Elsie, recently turned 7, and her little brother, Teagan, will be 5 this summer; Percy, my beloved cat, turns 13 soon. You’ll probably hear me talk a lot about Elsie and Teagan. After all, my little ones are a huge part of my life! Dallas, my partner, and his dog, Indy, will likely pop up from time to time as well.

Born and raised in the cornfields of Indiana, I made the choice to move to a smaller, semi-rural small town just outside of the city post-divorce. Though my hometown of Terre Haute feels small because of how segmented each section of the city can be, it’s home to nearly 60k people; my current town barely exceeds 10k in population, which would be a culture shock if we weren’t so close to downtown Indianapolis.

A condensed history of my education and career background…

I went to Indiana University Indianapolis back when it was still IUPUI, where I got my first bachelor’s degree in English/Creative Writing. While there, I joined other young women in founding the Pi Omicron chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority. After a short break post-graduation, I returned to school at Indiana State University to receive my second bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Since high school, I’ve had many jobs. But my longest employment has been with my current employer – though I’ve worked for them within the accounting department for a consecutive 8+ years, I have been employed by them at various times since 2011. Recently I took a step back from a corporate role involving frequent travel to one that is locally based, enabling me to be more available to my kids.

I’ve been through enough hardship in the past few decades years to last an entire lifetime. And I want to share those experiences with you. Maybe you’re going through similar hardships, or maybe you’re just going through the normal transitions of adulthood and womanhood. Whatever journey you are on, let me walk with you. I’ve got a lot of stories to share along the way.
